MY FRIEND FEAR

book illustration

Duration: 2 Months
Writer: Julia Gancarz
My Role: Illustrator, visual concept developer, Writer

This book was created out of a need to share my personal experience of living with depression and anxiety. Its aim is to show that fear—despite its intensity—is an important part of emotional development and can be tamed through understanding and acceptance. In an accessible, at times humorous form, I encourage readers to face their emotions and to seek support through conversation and professional help. I want to emphasize that experiencing fear is not a reason for shame. Even a fierce lion or a small ant is sometimes afraid.

The book was created by cutting each page, each character on paper first. That allowed me to create this effect of collage on flat paper. All scans were corrected digitally.
